“I’m Sorry” Acrylic and collage on canvas. 24” x 36” 2017.

I checked out some of your other work. In my opinion, I think this is one of your best. Not cause the quirky social media component, but the way you expressed the subject's emotion & energy. The collage style & colors in this painting are also very unique, although I think it would have looked better without the large heart in the left corner.

In my interpretation, it seems like this guy is a typical young male saturated by the high of chasing women on dating apps. He is irked by this woman deciding she doesn't want to see him anymore & doesn't realize his underlying loneliness, which is why he uses these apps in the first place. Hence, his apathetic, disappointed, and miserable expression.

This is only my interpretation of course, but the sense from the painting is more that it's a woman than a male friend or family member. I feel this way partly because it looks like he put a little more effort in his appearance that day. I think someone in the repost of this painting implied the subject is gay, but his vibe doesn't seem like that. It's kind of sad cause there are so many young men like this, deep down longing for love, but looking for it in all the wrong places.
