I’m terrified and don’t know where to start.

So understand. And you’re in the “freak out” stage, been there. It will dissipate into, “Welp, it is what it is.” Baby steps. I started with the alphabet, and counting, was easier than I thought. ASL is really cool, actually. Connect with HLAA as others posted.

I found that learning “proper” ASL is more fun when I also learn slang, i.e., what the kids are signing these days. Some people will scold you for learning slang, I don’t know why (at all, can’t figure it out for the life of me). And the seemingly infinite ways to sign “pizza” is awesome—just that opened my eyes to a new paradigm of and appreciation for communication.
