MA COVID-19 Data 4/5/20

The most useful and accurate statistic here are the hospitalization numbers. There are (according to WAPO), likely a lot of deaths that aren't being recorded as covid because why test someone who died when the test could be used on someone who is alive. And new cases and daily tests seem to go up and down a lot day to day.

If you look at the 'Daily & Cumulative "Patient was Hospitalized"' Chart. Daily new hospitalizations are down for the 2nd day in a row. This could be some reporting issue (maybe bureaucrats aren't at work that day), but if it's part of a trend, then we'd be over the peak and headed downward. This would also mean the curve had been flattened.

Given the timing of when stay at home started and considering at what's happened to flu cases since this all started, I'm cautiously optimistic that we're seeing good news. That

  1. transmission rates were radically cut with the stay at home and social distancing and that
  2. we are finally seeing that bear out in the hospitalization numbers.
