Married people of Reddit: What is the harmless elephant in the room that won't affect your relationship but you never speak of?

I wake up if a mouse rolls over two blocks away

If you are interested in trying to help this problem, try putting a small fan in your room near the bed. It doesn't have to point at you. The soft white noise from the fan masks any other background noises and can make a HUGE difference in how quiet everything seems, and how easy it is to fall asleep.

When I was a teenager, my Mom had this problem. She would go to bed early, and the slightest noise would send her on a rampage. The house had to be dead quiet, and I was always a night person. Trying to watch TV in the other room was ridiculous. The volume would be turned so low that you were straining to hear every word of dialog. After a few days of her getting particularly upset and the final night that turned into a screaming match because she couldn't sleep and I was "being too loud" by walking around, I finally plugged a fan in next to her bed and insisted that she try. She didn't want to try it, she wanted QUIET !!!! - More arguing, more begging, finally she tried it. It only took one night, and it changed her life. She absolutely cannot sleep without a fan in the room now, and with the fan on, you could drive a dump truck through the house, and it didn't disturb her. Any time she travels, she takes a small portable fan with her to the hotel. I was finally able to be awake a night without fearing for my life.

Give it a try, it can make a huge difference to your quality of sleep.
