Is it me, or is this pretty sensationalistic writing from ESPNF1 about the current ownership of F1?

I don't want to say it but it's an American news site reporting on a joint American-Qatar takeover of a supposedly corrupt foreign business and one headed by a Brit no less. It's classical in it's approach and spreading the oft used and erroneous notion that America spreads good old fashioned freedom wherever it touches and is bowing to the people attempting to incite some sort of nationalistic pride.

It's not the people in charge exclusively so much as it's the system and unless that changes, we can churn over owners as much as we like but the rot will remain. As long as the top is run like a business and competing teams with a vested interest are given a say in the rules that determine others ability to play catch-up, the rest will be disjointed and out of kilter. The rules we have are designed to cut costs but all they do is stifle innovation whilst teams are still unable to financially compete. That's a backwards way of living if ever there was one. I don't see how these new owners could change the DNA of a sport that has existed long before some of them were even born and even if they do, will it actually be for the better? As long as money is sucked out the sport or handed around unfairly then nothing will change. Quite equally, pulling the plug cold turkey on tracks and team's income will simply cause an uprising and an exodus of proud names and history that made this sport infamous across the globe. We can only wait and see but change for the sake of change is not always a good thing.

Just remember. Often, the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence because it's fertilised with bullshit. Be careful what you wish for. Of course, this may signal the beginning of something amazing but treating it as the second coming of Christ simply because it's change is frighteningly disingenuous.
