Not quite. Most rural families in developing countries live on their farm animals. The raise their own chickens and pigs. It gives them income and a food source. And many use them to sell to the bigger towns for a decent capital. Are you that indifferent to rural life? If by poor you mean those that barely have enough to eat. They consist of a small % of the population and don't affect consumption.

Agree that developed countries should cut down. 1-2kg/week per person in the US and Germany is not good for long term health. Even if going vegan is too much they should try to steadily reduce.
