Minarchist Government Reform

To start, I'd abolish the 16th amendment (that allows the federal government to collect income tax). Without an endless supply of money, the size of government will shrink dramatically.

Then I'd abolish the 17th amendment (which changed the way senators are elected). Without this amendment, the states will have more power because state legislatures will once again be electing senators. When the state governments become more powerful than the federal government, we'll be on the right track.

Next, i'd audit the Fed. No, I'd abolish the Federal Reserve. Thomas Jefferson was right, Hamilton was wrong. We do not need a national bank. Abolishing the Fed will prevent the government from printing money whenever they need it.

Then I'd try to redefine the role of government. Like Grover Cleveland, I do not believe the government's responsibility is to ve charitable. Leave that to the people. (People are naturally compassonate. We don't need government force to redistribute wealth and resources.)

Then I'd have fun repealing laws. Thousands of them. Anti-Drug laws. Anti-Gun laws. Anti-Prostitution laws. Anti-Polygmy laws. Federal minimum wage laws. Anti-Insider trading laws.

Next, on to the reform of intellectual property laws. Sorry Mickey Mouse, you're in the public domain now. 25 years for copyrights and trademarks is the max. As for software patents- no, they don't exist anymore.

Then I'd write a couple new constitutional amendments.

  • First, freedom of association. You can associate - or not associate - with anyone you want.

  • Next amendment: Government (and government officials/employees) cannot exempt itself (themselves) from any law.

  • Next amendment: Eminent domain is illegal.

  • Next amendment: There needs to be a way for states to peacefully secede from the country, if they choose. This requires a 75% popular vote by the people and by the state's legislature. And,any state the secedes cannot re-join the union for at least 25 years.

  • The Star Spangled Banner is no longer our national anthem. For frick's sake let's come up with a song that's not about war and bombing. (And it's about the War of 1812, which we didn't even win!) There should be a national competition to write a better song.

  • And the Pledge of Allegiance. I'm making a strong recommendation to all state legislatures that it should NOT be a part of the public school system. It's propoganda... Brainwashing... It forces kids to blindly recite a pledge to obey and protect our country without asking questions or challenging authority.

But, I am still a minarchist after all. And I do love my country. And I think it was founded on solid principles.

There are SOME things the federal government can do. They can maintain a modest military, for defense only. They can keep reasonable environmental and anti-pollution laws in place. They can enforce legal contracts.
