Mitch McConnell Refused to Meet With Group That Funded His Polio Recovery

They offered to meet with him anytime between July 16 and 22. On Monday, July 19, McConnell was asked by Chuck Schumer on the senate floor if the bill would be in the public sphere for at least 10 hours before coming to vote. McConnell refused to make that promise.

The public will have access to the content of the bill for less than 10 hours before it is voted on. By comparison, Obamacare was publicly debated for almost a year, with dozens of public hearings and amendments in that time. The Senate Finance Committee alone held 53 hearings and meetings about the AHCA.

So when it comes to Trumpcare, time is of the essence for the public to reach out to the politicians that are writing and will be voting on the bill. An issue exclusively being manufactured by the Republicans in the senate. And why? Just ask senator Orrin Hatch:

“We have zero cooperation from the Democrats, so getting it in public gives them a chance to get up and scream.”

Which translates to: they don't want you or anyone else to know what's in it until it's already law because they know that you probably aren't going to like what it says and does. i.e. gutting access to healthcare to millions, mostly poor working class folks, i.e. a large chunk of the GOP base, and providing tax cuts to the wealthy, i.e. the people the GOP are loyal to.

But aside from all that, McConnell did refuse to meet with 15 advocacy groups when given a week long window. The window could be larger, but when the senate GOP are refusing to make the bill public, are refusing to even give a full day to public debate, refusing to even hold a public hearing, and could introduce the bill to vote at any time, it is McConnell and his colleagues that force the time sensitivity of the situation.

Given that the GOP has opted to create this situation, the GOP should be held accountable when they find themselves "too busy" to meet with public advocacy groups over bills that impact nearly 20% of our economy and the literal health of the people.

So maybe that guy is astroturfing, and maybe it is for political reasons, but they are political reasons that the GOP are manufacturing. It is the situation that the GOP has created that would lead to this sort of press. And it should. It's disgusting.
