[Mod] Simple Questions - the weekly stupid questions thread! - Week Beginning May 29, 2017

Do we have to perform a lot of reps for hypertrophy? There was a post I read some months ago about the ideal total reps per week for each muscle 180 to 210, but it contrasts with other programmes in the faq which involve 5x5 mostly.

Having only the time to go out twice a week, I made an upper body routine:

Db flat bench 4x10 Db fly 4x10 Db shoulder press 4x10 Side raise 4x12 Front raise 4x12 T-bar row 4x10 Seated cable row 4x12 Assisted t-bar row 3x8 Curl 4x8 supersetted with overhead extension 4x8

I've been following it for 4 months without fail except for two weeks during which I was sick. I've yet to see any visible muscle gain despite gaining weight (5kg). I've noticed however that my stomach and cheeks look bigger, so I suspect what I gained was largely fat.

Is there anything bad about this routine? I was performing a different routine for two months prior to switching to this current routine (recommended by a friend who had bulked really well). My reason for switching was due to school starting and limited time. I did not see visible muscle gains during those two months too, but my strength drastically increased. Thank you for any help.
