More people should acknowledge the homeless/beggers even if you arent planning on giving them money.

No thanks. I live in an area where homelessness is rampant and many of them are addicts (needles/bottles lying about), yelling racial/homophobic slurs, harrass passersby and squatting on business property. Also, if you acknowledge them they expect you to give them things. Some even get aggressive if you ignore them. Many people have been jumped or had their property vandalized by thrm.

I used to acknowledge, be nice, etc...but you hear the same stories being spun so they can get money for booze/drugs and the amount of bigots and general lack of respect for others' and their property among many of them and you come to a point where enough is enough. Of course it isn't 'all' (just many of the more 'visible' squatters/addicts) but its enough to make you cautious and wary at best. Not exactly a bleeding heart response but an honest one.
