Is the music industry fucked up beyond all repair?

Here, I'll do a little bit of rambling on as I think. It annoys people.. haha.. just try and get past that.

Why did this thread get downvoted to 0. There's a silent crisis going on in the music industry in recent years and nobody's really talking about it. Next thing you know everything tanks and things are dead.

You're already starting to see some of the ramifications out there. Just go thru the FM radio dial. What I notice is lots of station are playing old crap. Then you have the contemporary top 40 stuff a bit. The university stations used to play odd stuff but even then you tune in and it's fairly boring. Doesn't seem like there's much new material or something.

Everything seems to be falling apart compared to how it used to be. Let's look at how it used to be. Believe it or not, these days it's fucking great how you can get your music out there. Back then, let's say before the internet. And then it's also awesome with all these digital tools. Fuck, like come on. With analog, forget it. So we got all these cool tools to make music but nobody's really doing anything that makes you go wow!, are they.

No, they're all busy staring into their smart phones. So many distractions nowadays with things you can do. And then there's only a couple hours of spare time in a day to do stuff with. So all these distractions, people really go fuck you with your shit eh. They don't have time for it. Back when the internet started in the late 90's early 2000's, people used to be nice. If you try and reach out to anybody nowadays, you'll get king-shit ignored. Try and send somebody an email.. hahaha.. No, nobody's coming to help you buddy. And I don't mean the poster of this thread but just anybody. Nope, you're on your own out there.

ok where was I.. yeah back before the internet and digital tools. Fuck man, like forget it, just trying to make music and then how you gonna get it out there. So trust me, it's awesome these days with the tools and the internet with how you can get it out there. Back in the 90's lets say.. well if you made tunes, it'd sound like shit, it'd be analog, on what a fucking cassette.. and what, snail mail to a fucking label? Good luck. They didn't really have university radio stations then so like how you supposed to get out there, let's say if you're just one guy making tunes and not a band. Fuck, forget it. However I can think of oh you know like aphex twin, he did it back then. But you go thru the labels eh. Now you can even fucking bypass that and fuck man, get this, make money on your shit if you can, without signing a contract. Like come on, shit sucks but that, how you can actually make a living off it, plus the digital tools.. I think it's exciting.

The problem is, the flood of other idiots. How you gonna get your crap out there, going me me me, listen to my shit. Well it's hard. You need to be a nut and go, I don't care.. i'm gonna work on my shit and keep going at it no matter what even if I got oh a half dozen subscribers. I'm gonna keep plugging at it for years.

The kids nowadays all want a quick fix pushing as few buttons as possible, looping repeating rubbish and expect to fucking win at the game. No it takes hard work. So maybe if you keep going at it, you can get there. You just have to turn off the video games, throw out the tv, quit fucking around online with places like here.. heh.. Put some craftsmanship into the product. That's the tough part it's like, fuck, I'm in the hole and gotta get out of it asap. Well to do that the shit needs to be great, not just good. To do that takes seasons on a track and then video.. then they go wow when they see it. I've always thought, back from the start on mp3.com in the late 90's.. I've always said if you make tunes that make 'em go wow when they hear it, they'll tell their buddies and it'll get out there. You don't need to worry about promotion. That's still true and I need to keep that in mind even if I get discouraged about it. It's hard man.. you gotta get out of the hole, well that ain't gonna happen with rushed, crappy product.

ok now back to what this guy was wondering about. The problem is the labels. They get their money from the bands playing live nowadays. If you can't play live, you ain't gonna get signed. And then the fucking commercial radio stations, what do they play, well the shit labels put out. So it's a vicious circle. If you've got odd music, forget it buddy, you're fucked. Then the university stations.. well with all this internet crap, who sits around listening to FM university stations. So yeah you might get on there but who's listening.

Now, this guy here.. glancing at his username.. sounds like he's a seven avengedfold fan. haha.. you like me screwing that up, hang on it's avenged seven fold.. haha.. Oh I also checked his username and sounds like I checked out some of his stuff. Seems like those a7x guys. Allright.. well you're doing that type of music eh. Well, that shit's in trouble out there these days. That's like rock eh. That whole genre isn't doing too good. The main thing is the riff combinations on a guitar are used up. You try that riff, no can't do it, it's copywritten by some previous band. There's only so many combinations of riffs you can do. It's like an oil well, that's used up buddy. You may need to like evolve or something. When shit changes you can't just sit there and keep making saddles when there's cars on the road.

There's a whole untapped future in music out there since these digital tools. I see making music with noises. Instruments with sound effects. oh yeah. The trouble is, to get played on radio it needs to be that bullshit formula of their little exhausted song recipe of chorus verse. Fuck it that boring. But I say, who cares about them go make the new shit. If people go wow, it'll get out there. Fuck their little kick drum at beat timing.

ok back to this a7x guy. hey at least you can tour live and play in bars or something. But fuck, how much money's gonna come in and if you got band members.. holy fucking shit, that shit ain't gonna pay the bills dude. Plus the music increasingly sucking in recent years because no good riffs.. naw it's a sinking shit that whole rock thing. You could use your imagination and incorporate what I was talking about. Fuck, with these digital tools you could make cool shit. Have interesting twists turns and surprises instead of the same old bullshit.. but no, they like their little boring song structure.

so i don't know dude.. The hard part here is working a bullshit day or night job and then trying to work on tunes. Burned right out after work, only 2-3 hours spare time and then it's like, oh.. takes months for a track. Now a video.. Then you try and get it out there.. Nice try attempting that here on reddit, they're all fucking way over uptight about people plugging their own shit.. so yeah good luck. Try some of the dead subreddits and what get a dozen plays.

But hey my attitude is.. oh i just spent an hour before this trying to find some sort of reddit alternative. Ya know what, the internet's dead and there are no sites with any sort of traffic, now is there. So I went, ya know what.. reddit is not bad. At least those dozen plays are a hope in hell. So all that.. how you can make cool music with the digital tools, the internet and how you can get your shit out there compared to the analog days. Then lablels totally in control, also being the middleman taking their cut. I think it's fucking awesome out there these days, even though it's a micro bit of hope. But I don't give a fuck I'm gonna keep plugging at this shit. Your key is to make those tunes that make 'em go wow and you'll get out there. This shit doesn't happen overnight dude. Takes a long time, you need a body of work. But I'm enthusiastic about the hope here with it all. And yeah my job completely sucks but hey it's better than sitting around watching tv. The key here is to keep working on the current project even if it sucks. That way you get to the next future project. So even if shit sucks at the moment you keep going at it, bro. lol. And yeah.. gonna hit send and don't have time to re-read cause I just blew my 2-3 hours of spare time for the day with zero progress advancing tunes today. But i looked and yeah i appreciate this shithole a bit more cause go outside of here and there's nothing in terms of having other people discover your stuff. So i got some hope and borrowing you some of it. haha :-D and yeah shoulda added a paragraph up there somewhere but gotta get to bed and no time to re-read. lol.
