My 20-Year Journey from Linux to Bitcoin | Rusty Russell

Let me pause that there. And go back to my Linux story. Because an interesting thing has happened in the last 15 years. When you take out your phone and pull up a web page, the machine that sent you that web page is probably running Linux. Of the 500 fastest supercomputers in the world, 497 of them Linux.

So sick of this argument. Neither of these relevant to those who try to use it on the desktop. It's a shallow cold comfort at best. Yeah, when you build a home server it can come handy since you don't have to pay for software, but that's about it.

And Linux is in over one billion phones at the heart of Android.

And it's basically locked down, installing your own version of it is a pain, and good luck if you want to go fully libre....

Instead of winning the desktop, we won everywhere else.

No. Goggle won. Facebook won. Amazon won. They using it to further their world dominating efforts, enslawing humanity with the power of open source. Meanwhile the capability gap between Gimp and Photoshop is a decade big and growing, voice control sucks out of the box, and many other projects struggling to get by because we're too weak to sustain them, and those who have the power aren't interested in a libre alternatives of.

Linux may have won, but software freedom is dying and we may be powerless to do anything about it...
