Thank you for your advice! Yes he asks questions often and genuinely seems like one of the most romantic and thoughtful guys I’ve ever been with. It’s just sometimes I get the sense everything is supposed to be “perfect” and when he changes topic, I get the sense I’ve messed up the perfect, although I’m not sure how.

It’s other stuff too, like getting mad and passive aggressive if I ever take out my phone around him (I rarely ever use it anyway), and also got irritated because I cried at a TV show he didn’t think was sad, and he said “well if we don’t even have the same emotions with TV shows imagine how incompatible we are in other ways”

It just seems like a control freak thing but I don’t know how to bring it up without upsetting him because he works so hard to be the perfect partner and therefore gets really defensive if I ever have issues with the relationship
