My MIL ACTUALLY said this to me...

My in laws are great, as far as in laws go anyways. When i was prego with my first, there were no other grandchildren on either side and MIL was ECSTATIC. The capital letters cant really convey JUST HOW ECSTATIC SHE WAS. This made me nervous!! i didnt feel comfortable leaving him with her. what if she tried to give him water? what if the cats rubbed on him? you know, the usual, she is kind of a scatter brain and at the time, seemed to be someone who would sneak things, like ice cream. (yes she tried to give my 2 month old ice cream), so i was hesitant to leave him with her, naturally. Fast forward a year and my drug addicted SIL with no desire to have children and no maternal instinct WHATSOEVER is pregnant. She looks up to me for guidance and advice. her baby daddy has a history of allergies blahbitty blah blah.

She felt the same way as me about leaving him with her mom but it didnt affect her the way it affected me so she still did it. When my nephew started eating food, SIL told MIL not to feed him anything she didnt pack, just in case, you never know!! i had explained to them both how dangerous eggs and strawberries can be before the age of 1 if a kid is allergic. SIL repeats this in front of MIL one day and then i explain (to the best of my knowledge) and she agrees. Fast forward a few weeks and i get a hysterical call from SIL, MIL has fed the baby STRAWBERRIES and EGGS in one sitting. SIL did not let my nephew go with MIL for almost a year after that. Luckily, he was fine, but after listening to SIL on the phone hysterical with the DR., MIL no longer takes it upon herself to make decisions regarding the babes.

We got her some info off the internet regarding allergies and asthma (the kid also has severe asthma, hes 3 and still has to do breathing treatments everyday sometimes up to 4 times a day)and she apologized and just said it was like that in her day!! yeah, and kids died from strawberry allergies in your day too!
