My Native American tattoo from Jenna Kerr, Devil in Detail Studio, Stoke on Trent

Thank you for your response Luke.

I understand that defending your significant other is important, and if really appreciate your admittance and understanding of the subject. Education is key, and whilst I agree being European you are not as aware of the subject entirely, I find it a bold step to engage in actual conversation with someone on the internet who disagrees, let alone someone you have may inadvertently disrespected. You have listened and understood, and that's all I hoped for with my post.

To answer your questions: Sadly, I do not think other cultures can fully embrace certain items without causing upset within said culture, this is particularly predominant throughout natives and aboriginals who feel it is mostly Caucasians who attempt to apply their own significance or culture, and gradually devalue the cultural and historical integrity of items because of lack of education and awareness.

Within the globalised world, I feel that just because cultures are merging does not give anybody the right to pick and choose what they find aesthetically pleasing or appropriate, and apply it for personal, cosmetic or financial gain. As we merge, it is important to protect our identities, and this (variations of headdresses) is one of our final remnants. As I said previously, please leave us this.

The tattoo is a beautiful piece of work, there is no denying that aspect. But hold my suggestion of covering it up if you vacation here. You can have it for beauty in Europe, but respect that it may not be well received in certain states and areas, and may upset natives or even non-natives. Here in Oklahoma, I feel nobody would approach you to vocalise their thoughts, but I cannot speak for other nations across other states.

Have a wonderful day Luke. I hope OP has read this conversation also, understands my thoughts and takes my suggestion. Thank you.
