My Response to My Genesis 3 Commentary Critique.

I mostly enjoyed your commentary, but I felt it was stronger in the beginning of the night, and weakened towards the end. You had some great points you made early on about playstyles and character choices, and those along with your fresh and funny jokes really helped the night open up hype from the get-go. But towards the end, in the most competitive matches, you filled a lot of space with tired jokes and off-topic observations. You definitely don't deserve the hate you're getting for it, but there was a broad criticism for a reason.

Your jokes are funny, really, and you know how to spin a topic, but letting the other person control the pace once in a while would benefit both of you. You can come on strong, and it's hard for viewers to only experience "Sky watches Smash." That being said, you got more laughs out of me than anyone else tonight, and I'd hate it if this event turned you away from future commentating. You have mad comedic chops, and I really do enjoy hearing you on the mic. You also clearly have a lot of knowledge about the game, and even more knowledge about the players of the game. That's one of the reasons you're a great commentator, but I also think that familiarity hurt you this time around.

I think at the heart of the issue is your lack of deference for the other people there. I understand that you are well-associated with these people, and you're just speaking about them familiarly, but to the thousands watching, hearing you call these players who have worked their hearts out "cute" feels disrespectful. Cute is a diminutive term, and in this context it felt like a belittling one. Hearing you harp on ZeRo's accented catchphrase felt the same. To you, these people may be colleagues and housemates, but to everyone else, they're the paragons of skill and practice. I think that's what's really at the heart of most of the comments about your sexuality and personality; They really just didn't feel like you were respecting the game.

I know you didn't mean to come off that way, and I'm sorry for the reaction you've gotten. These few days will probably be tough. Many of the comments I've seen have been unfair to you, as anonymous voices on the internet will tend to be. But I really enjoyed listening to you today. And the few times I didn't enjoy it as much didn't in any way ruin the event. I know there are others that feel the same. So don't take this all too hard; balancing commentary with humor is an incredibly difficult job, and there are so few people who do it well, which is why we see so many familiar faces on the mic. I really believe you are one of those people, and I hope you get a chance to shine again soon.
