Myth and the Philosophy of Religion

my 2 cents:

Myth is still the "enemy" of philosophy in the sense that is tries to veil the truth while philosophy tries to unveil it.

Myth is a justification of the founding murder. Someone actually was killed, and as we know, ganging up on a helpless victim is the most surefire way of creating brotherhood among men.Myth describes this brotherhood as the creation of the world (previously there was chaos ). The killing and dismembering of the victim is described as the eyes becoming the rivers, the victims hair becoming the skies, etc. The body if the victim creates order.

The created order needs bodies to be sustained, hence many early societies institutionalized sacrifice, making it the focal point of the year.

For a more thorough treatment I refer to the works of Rene Girard.
