Net Neutrality bull shit and why you should give a fuck

See but that's not really throttling and what so many people don't understand. That issue is waaaaaay more complicated. In ELI5 terms Netflix was using technology that bypassed traditional CDN networks. Essentially Netflix made its own fast lane on Comcast's network. They did that to many ISPs, Netflix made their own terms and said here you go. Comcast though was otherwise treating the traffic the same, but all of this data for video streaming was taking up about 30% of the capacity for their network. So Comcast said if you want us to play by your rules, you have to pay us. And Netflix did. Then Netflix made a campaign to make this all about net neutrality (it's really not) so that the government could regulate what they were doing and prevent Comcast from charging a fee for Netflix to use their own made up fast lane.

I know everyone likes to hate on Comcast, but in that situation I think Netflix was the bully. It's a long read, but you can read more about it here https://www.cnet.com/news/comcast-vs-netflix-is-this-really-about-net-neutrality/
