Vox: non-police “violence interrupters” don’t work

Or, and hear me out on this:

Completely legalize all illicit drugs. Set in place strict regulations that limit how much you can get at one time, and let people buy it in a store, but you have to scan your ID, and a computer tracks how much you've had. Go over the limit and you get told no. Take away the incentive to be a drug dealer. You want to sell dope, fine. Here's a two year college program to be a pharmacist. You have to be licensed to sell in the store, and everyone buys from the store because it's guaranteed to not be laced with something. Take the drugs away from the gangs with beurocracy. No more illegal drugs, no more drug gangs, no more territorial shootouts.

But public health crisis. If you make it illegal, people will overdose and kill themselves.

That's been the rhetoric since the 60's but recent data from places like Colorado would tend to indicate differently. Even so, it's nobody's business beyond that specific individual.
