“We want new technologies designed, built, tested and, eventually, marketed and manufactured right here,” Governor Phil Murphy said. “This is how we not only make New Jersey a global leader in clean energy, but also how we make New Jersey a global leader again in the innovation economy.”

Yeah... The situation in San Fransisco and San Diego is ironic. Those cities attracted all those startups and established companies because they were welcoming communities, with solid infastructure, nice clean neighborhoods, and good schools. But over the last decade all those high paying jobs and corperate HQs have driven up property values, rent, and costs of basic services. Which has created a serious problem where the people who provide the services to all those tech workers can't afford rent and often sleep in their cars.

Seattle has run into the same issue after Amazon made them into a startup hub and place for businesses to move. The only people who can afford to survive there are the ones making 175K+ working for a major tech firm and everyone else is one paycheck away from living on the street.

Portland Oregon is headed in the same direction. Intel, Nike, Adidas, Xerox, and Wacom to name a few companies have now set up there. As a result cost of living has sky rocketed and the city is looking for solutions. Housing costs have quadrupled and the only new development is million dollar condos.

Careful what you wish for because for many cities that have become hubs of innovation, the people who are native to that area end up not being able to afford living there.
