The rate of homicide reduction has increased 1.5x in 4 years. If you only have the mental capacity of seeing UP and DOWN, what is the point of having a nuanced conversation? You can pretend that since the graph was going down before Bukele, and it is still going down with Bukele, it is the exact same. But you know it's not. In that increase in homicide reduction rate is hundreds of El Salvadorans that are alive today that would have been murdered at the previous rate. Hundreds of mothers, fathers, grandparents, and children that mean something to others. These are mothers that didn't spend the rest of their lives dealing with the burden of losing a son. Wives having husbands to help raise their children. Children who won't have to know what it means to grow up without parents.

You can have your head in the sand halfway across the world typing away pretending not to see a difference. You are not affected by it. That indifference is what led countries dumping their gang members onto the streets of San Salvador. God forbid the El Salvador government take measures to do something about it and lock up 60,000 gang affiliates. These measures are overwhelmingly supported by the people of the country but maybe you know better than them. But then again, all you see is a line on a graph.
