Night shift workers of reddit, What's the scariest thing you've seen while working on a night shift somewhere?

I’m a security guard at a office / business rental space complex, people pay a certain amount of money per month to use one of our offices. It’s usually really chill, and the during COVID it’s been pretty barren other than a few people coming in for meetings or to do a bit of extra work during the weekend. Anyway long story short it’s built on top of a former mental home so there’s the odd horror story here and there to do with former patients, I tended to just ignore them when I first started but last year something happened and now I’m not so sure….

We have to check the grounds every so often and the guards take turns every couple of hours, I went out on my patrol one night and all the way round I felt like someone was watching me, I could hear breathing and footsteps behind me which I just dismissed as animals or just the wind. I got to the car park at the very back of the complex and what I saw….well idk what I saw, I don’t really believe in ghosts and have tried telling myself it was a trick of the light, but in the bushes at the back of the car park I saw a man, a man in what looked like a hospital gown, I couldn’t get a good look at him cause it was pitch black and I was quite far, but there was definitely someone there.

As I got closer the man started to fade from my view, almost like the closer I got the further he got, I can still his outline clear as day, just standing there not moving or anything, just staring at me as I was wandering about.
