I have no passion

Just recently read a book "how to fail at just about anything and still win big". In it, there was a part about how passion is bullshit. Actually, the title was literally called "passion is bullshit". In this section the author makes a very good argument, against conventional wisdom, that success is actually what causes passion more than passion causes success. Passion can or may also be a marker for talent.

Forget about needing passion in order to obtain some kind of success. Perhaps it is the other way around.

Think of the things you are bad at. We are all bad at a variety of things. Are you passionate about any of the things you are particularly bad at? I am terrible at computer programing. I can definitely get better at it, which I plan to do, but am I passionate about it? No. Do I think it is cool? Sure.

"If you ask a billionaire the secret of his success, he might say it is passion, because that sounds like a sexy answer that is suitably humble. But after a few drinks I think he'd say his success was a combination of desire, luck, hard work, determination, brains, and appetite for risk. So forget about passion when you're planning your path to success."

From my personal experience: I started with the goal of becoming a doctor. This was my passion. According to all the clichéd books / posts, I was on the right track. I had my goal written down and visualized it regularly. However, once I started taking the classes, I found out they were extremely hard. I like challenges, no problem. However, these were particularly boring challenges that I had no interest in. I guess you can say I was not necessarily good at it either. I tend not to be very good in things I find boring. Therefore, my passion faded.

I switched my major to a branch of politics. I was good at it and found it incredibly interesting. Maybe this is what caused me to start becoming "passionate" about finishing school with this major.

Once I graduated, I got a job that paid fairly well. I was mediocre at it and it was boring to say the least. This is probably what caused my passion for it to fade. I found a different job that is very challenging and not boring, in my opinion. (Miraculously, it actually pays better than the last one). I guess you can say I am passionate about my job.

However, I am still, and am constantly looking for a job better than the last. Don't ever settle.

After stating that I would like to address your statement that all your positive activities are pointless because you don't have a passion. Maybe you have to stop reading all the clichéd posts / books about how to find your passion and what to do, your passion will come after you start succeeding.

With that being stated, perhaps your question will be how to be successful so that, maybe, you can develop a passion. First off, you are on the right track. Reading, self-improving, working out, eating healthy: Those all greatly increase your odds of striking the gold of success.

I can continue writing with the hopes of assisting you, but I feel as though I am blabbering on. If you would like more personalized assistance or advice or book recommendations, inbox me. I would also like to state that you have to be careful of the self-help books/community. The majority of posts/books of this genre are incredibly well-intentioned but fail to actually help you develop/change your mindset(s), philosophies of life, view(s) of the world and of people, etc.
