Not sure if this is well-known, but here's a simple mock-up of a maneuver to get behind your enemy when you get stuck in a loop during a dogfight.

Didn't want to start a new thread because it's kind of related, but...

I'm usually RES bounty hunting/farming in a Viper... I don't remember my fits from the top of my head (I'm 100 LY away from it in a Cobra, waiting for my friend who's going to buy the game tomorrow) but they're decent... Mostly A and C class etc... And 90% the time when engaging NPC pirates it either goes into the constant loop like in the picture, or we end up coming towards each other, going over, turning around and coming towards each other again, going over again etc... I very rarely manage to get behind or outmanouver my target.

I'm always using the up/down thrust (and even left/right sometimes) when I want to do tighter turns or manouver like in the picture, I even utilize short periods of FA off to turn myself or keep my sights on the target when passing over, and most importantly, I try to always have as much power in the engines as possible, and to make sure that I'm always in the blue zone when manouvering, yet everything seems to still out-manouver me.

Especially Cobras, Clippers and sometimes other Vipers are big problems, I just can't get above/below/behind them, ever... Eagles are annoying, too, but at least they blow up fast so I can usually unload everything I've got on the first engage and they're toast.

What am I doing wrong, and how can I properly manouver in combat? Oh, and I know that turning is much much slower than rolling, so I only use that for micro-adjustments when aiming. I don't have any fancy joysticks or throttles, just KB+M, but I've modified my keybinds and they work very well for me, I can do fancy tricks on the mailslot or clear it in pretty big speeds, so I don't feel like the controls are a problem, it's something else.

Ps. sorry for being wordy, can't help it.
