Notice how the friends that never text you back are the ones always on their phones when you see them

You read wayyyy too much into the title of this post. You've completely imagined all of this shit you think OP is implying.

There's nothing "demanding" at all about text conversation to a majority of people. No one is gonna think you're shallow or fake for not responding, they're just gonna think you're not interested in talking to them. There's also a huge difference between occasionally forgetting to reply to a text and being someone who has a reputation for not texting back; it's easy to tell the difference.

There's nothing at all wrong with evaluating a friendship based on the other person's willingness to communicate. That's like half of what being a friend is even about.

I'm sorry if you think people are being unfair to people with your tendencies but no one owes you a friendship. Friendships are a two way street, and if you want to have friends you have to invest yourself into them. If you're the type of person who often times doesn't feel social or communicative and often doesn't want to reply to messages then it shouldn't be a shock if no one wants to strain themselves to converse with you.

It's a harsh reality but it's reality.
