Nouveaux modérateurs - New Moderators

But anyway, I'm a born and raised Montrealer now residing on the South Shore (unfortunately) and I love my city to death. I consider myself quite knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Montreal from the early colonial times to modern times. I am also very up to date with news. Even though my parents aren't originally from here, I still have a strong sense of belonging to the city and I feel like have to give something in return. What better way than to moderate its subreddit haha?

Aside from the introduction, I believe that I have good plans to increase the interactivity of the subreddit. Instead of making a huge paragraph, I'll just list them.

  1. One problem we have on this subreddit is that it is a little divided in many smaller specific subreddits. Most casual redditors may be interested in those subreddits, but wouldn't subscribe because a lot of them are pretty much dead. So what I propose is to have weekly threads about those specific subreddits. For example, we can have a monday thread about new Montreal bands or songs you've discovered and wednesday threads about restaurants you loved and want to share. We can even have threads about rent or photography etc. Seasonal and /r/askmontreal threads are also a good idea as said before.

  2. Related to the last point, I really believe that we should inspire ourselves of subreddits such as /r/vexillology to properly tag and filter posts. Just go look at it. It's beautiful. This could help get what they want from the subreddit and avoid redundance.

  3. I have good knowledge about CSS, but I haven't had any concrete experience with a site yet. However, I am willing to take up the challenge. I think that the subreddit should upgrade its appearance to make it more personalised to the city. Of course I'm thinking about stuff like a logo redesign, putting a weekly sidebar image and the sidebar theme. We should definitely get inspired by other city subreddits such as /r/toronto (even though we shouldn't admit it), /r/seattle and /r/vancouver. We can't pretend we have the greatest model for a subreddit, we have to learn from others.

  4. Another thing the subreddit is lacking is a good introduction to the city. Maybe on the sidebar or somewhere there should be a link to a kind of wiki that introduces new residents to the general culture and history of Montreal. Things all Montrealers should know and and expect from the city. I think that with this we can have a more inclusive subreddit.

I have an open mind to new ideas, so I am willing to alter my plans to satisfy the most readers. In whole, I think that my contributions would be beneficial to the sub.

Si vous avez besoin d'une traduction, n'hésitez pas à me le demander.

Thanks!
