Responding to French in English?

Yeah, I agree with this. OP is just visiting and doesn’t need to feel bad about not speaking French. When I first moved here, I asked everyone “parlez-vous anglais?” (lol @ the guy who replied “ouais” my second day in the city, that one really threw me because I only knew “oui”)

Now I just respond in English if it’s a short interaction that I’m hoping to continue in English (I do still ask, for example, if its a contractor or hair dresser or someone else I’ll be interacting with for awhile.)

Literally no one has ever given me grief about this. Some people are even super apologetic about not speaking English better which makes me feel bad cause it’s like, really I should be the one with guilt for not speaking better French.
