A lot of of dildos/sex toys are made out of very unsafe chemicals that you would not want to put inside of your body. You would find it hard to believe that sex toys have no oversight in this regard, but it is the sad truth. A good bit of them are made of cheap materials that are chock full of carcinogens.

So what can you do? Firstly, stay away from Jelly toys. They are usually always the cheapest, but some of the most harmful. They can be so bad that they "melt" when in contact with other toys or plastics. This is more common than you would think. I could go on about how bad these specific toys are, but the TL;DR of it is - stay away.

Any toys that are made of PVC. For the most part, some PVC toys are safer, but that's not to say that they are "safe". Like jelly toys, they are pourus and can harbor bacteria, as well as contain some harmful chemicals. I would recommend using a condom on any PVC toy (if applicable).

Silicon are the best, although they are the most expensive. They are also the least likely to come with a suction cup. They are non pourous and are easy to clean up.

I would wholeheartedly recommend reading the reviews to any toy you choose to purchase, it could help you quite a bit in making an educated decision. I would say that in the past few years, I have found Amazon to be the best when it comes to making toy purchases, as you can read reviews from people who have actually purchased it before, so you know what to expect. Some people even post reviews with pictures and I have even seen a few video reviews on sex toys before.
