[NY, New York] I was hit by a car as a pedestrian and I have no idea what to do.

I am very sorry to hear you were injured in a crash but glad to see you are well enough to be making this post.

1) Get immediate medical care (which you did) and follow up care as directed.

2) In NYS, a no-fault state for first party medical bills and lost wages, the vehicle that hit you is primary. Because you are not able to identify that vehicle, make a claim with THIS ORGANIZATION. MVIAC will investigate and make a due diligent effort to identify the vehicle that crashed into you. There incentive to do so is to get out of paying your medical bills themselves.

3) Return to the hospital that 911 took you to and ask to speak to a financial councilor for advice on anything I may have left out.

4) Return to the precinct to get the police report and ask for a follow up to see if they can identify who hit you.

5) Were you "seriously" injured ? If not, either MVIAC or the no-fault portion of the coverage for the car that hit you will pay medical bills and lost wages up to $50k.

How is the term "serious injury' defined ? Click on that link.

If you are seriously injured, then get a lawyer. Be guided but what he or she tells you to do.

6) Do you or someone in your household own a motor vehicle? If so, report the incident to them as that coverage is secondary to the vehicle that hit you. Report this to your own health coverage which is tertiary as well as your employers workers compensation (if you were working).

Your own or household coverage would come into play if you are making a uninsured/under-insured coverage claim but if that were the case a lawyer needs to be involved.

7) reply to my reply or PM me if I can be of further assitance.

I hope you get better soon and put this all behind you.
