First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

We are witnessing the commercialisation of a platform that has thrived due to the efforts made by its community and volunteering moderators. Letting go one of the prima admins dedicated to organising many of the most successful AMAs is a bad move if you cant provide any subtext to the 'customers' you serve. The current sticky over at the AMA sub sends a very clear message to the company Reddit: We wont work with you anymore on our AMAs.

There is a genuine fear that questions the future of these AMAs. Ask me anything will become ask me this. Making the celebrities the customer, instead of the people there to see them.

That being said, i dont believe in the effectiveness of these blackouts. While a great display of solidarity it loses its effectiveness after numerous ones. Especially on a Reddit that has since long lost touch with being 'the frontpage of the internet'. Its no longer the frontpage, people just developed some sort of Stockholm syndrome, after all the abuse they have been put through recently. Outrage lasts a day, after that that same outrage is reduced to mere memes and circlejerks. A pathetic attempt to validate the fact no one in the current Reddit administration listens to their cries.

You have to make a decision for yourself whether you support Reddit, or whether you support Reddits community. As you say, this is but a single subReddit on a pretty big site. But i dread the day Reddit does not produce OC anymore - and that day will come.
