On Voting

Let's have a little chat about the politics of fear.

The politics of fear, and its advocates will tell attempt to scare you into voting for their candidate by waving some kind of bogeyman in front of your face. If you don't vote for X, Y will win and Y is much, much worse than X.

The power of hierarchies of all kind is built on fear of this kind. Without our system, things will be much, much worse. Everything is built and structured to keep each individual person at a delicate balance of comfort and fear. Life is just comfortable enough to not need to do anything and the alternatives are just too scary.

Fear is subtle, it is coercive, and it is powerful. Many live in a state of fear without even realizing it, but when they talk, they will do anything and everything to maintain the status quo.

The first step, on the individual level is to let go of that fear, that fear of change, that fear of ostracization and the fear of recrimination.

If you read Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning what you will find is that among the people who lived in the most inhuman conditions ever visited on a human being, the ones that held on, the ones that pushed through, held tightly to their culture, their songs, their music. The fascists did everything they could to scare them, dehumanize them but they would not let themselves be terrified into giving up who they were and what they believe.

Do not participate in the politics of fear. Do not settle for the lesser of two evils. Never vote or campaign for anyone that does not genuinely represent what you want, and if Trump wins, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it and we will again do it without fear. Without fear the worst a fascist can do is kill, they can never defeat. Their failure to understand this difference will always be their undoing.
