"Once you were old enough, what were the dark family secrets you were finally let in on?"

For legal reasons, this is a made up story about a family in Asia who suffered a terrible disaster two decades ago.

When I was 13 my Aunt, her husband and three kids got into a car accident on their way home from church. All of them were hospitalised for months. My aunt got brain damage, broke her arms and legs and like a hundred other bones. The eldest child went into a coma (lasted 7 years). The second child also got brain damage and has seizures on the daily. My uncle passed away 10 months later. The youngest child, the daughter, suffered internal bleeding and passed away the day after the crash.

The drunk driver went to jail for some months but was let go after my relatives pleaded with the judge and on tv to forgive him and let him go to be sent to a seminary to repent.

Not long after that, the drunk driver disappeared.

On the first anniversary of my cousin’s death, men in my family followed my (late) granddad and disappeared on their boats (clan of fishermen). They were gone for days.

Not long after that, the drunk driver’s body was found washed up at the beach near the site where the car crash happened.

At my aunt’s death bed she told everyone that her only regret in life was letting the police handle the car accident first instead of letting the family take care of it straight away. This is because her husband passed before they saw “justice”.
