Everyone my whole life said "HPV is normal, everyome gets some form of it" and severely downplayed the stuff that can come with it. I'm REALLY not a fan of "everyone has cold sores!" discorse for this reason. There's valid reasons to not want herpes, whether or not it's common. It's expensive and requires tons of maintenance. It's like purposely giving yourself diabetes because your partner said it's not the end of the world. The strain of HPV I got almost caused cervical cancer and I had multiple very invasive procedures to remove all the cells. I'm constantly thinking about it now and worry about it coming back or if it'll flare up if I get pregnant and little stuff like that.
