[Opinion] The hatred towards the hk protestors shows how glaring misinformation is in Singapore

lmao people patting themselves on the back for not being “meek” and “subservient”, while talking shit on safe, sunny Singapore.

The reason why so many Singaporeans disagree with the protests is obvious. It’s a lose-lose situation for the HK protesters, and they don’t even know what they’re fighting for except to chant “freedom” and “democracy”.

Why don’t you think a bit more critically and probe a bit deeper? How exactly has the democratically elected HK leaders governed HK in the past 2 decades? If democracy really did such a splendid job, why is it that less than half of HK locals own their homes, fresh uni grads face depressed wages and infrastructure in HK has generally not kept up with that of key mainland cities like Shanghai, Shenzhen? Some of the protesters will direct the blame at what they deem to be a corrupt government, but the policies that led to this abysmal quality of life did not happen in a span of a few years. The structural integrity of their democratic process has likely been compromised, but those protesters think that just swapping a new set of leaders will change things for the better. CCP interference at this point may even be relatively better for HK’s future development as a whole, but these protesters are too myopic and conceited to see it.
