Is Genshin's storytelling actually good or not?

If you ask me, it is hard to make a good video game story unless you put effort into tying the narrative to the gameplay. Show, don't tell and all that.

For example, the Tsurumi island quest was really good 'on paper' but the pacing was bogged down by all the unnecessary dialogue, fetch quests and filler gameplay activities. I think most quests in the game have this problem, and the stand out ones are the ones that do something unique with their presentation:

  • Raiden Act ll - Giving us control of an immortal Raiden

  • Sumeru Act ll - Re-doing the quest, unique dialogue options, etc

  • Dirge of Bilqis - The Eternal Oasis

Other than that, even the good ones are mostly limited to one good moment (Tighnari, Venti) with the rest of the quest being standard Genshin fare.
