Other than Reddit & masturbate, what do you do when you have a lot of free time?

I like writing alternate history and fantasy stuff, both fan fiction and original fiction. Right now I'm trying to pull together an alternate history Arthurian story running over several generations. I'm trying to keep it accurate which makes researching the starting period hard (400s Britain was a bit of a dark period of history), but running as I am from the 300s to 550s is letting me learn all sorts of cool bits of history.

That being said I'm enjoying it a lot and getting from Ambrosius to Uther to Arthur is an interesting journey, particularly as I incorporate elements beyond Britain like the infighting of the Franks, the rise of Justinian and the reconquests of Africa and Italy.

Because it's key for me to incorporate all the different myths, literature and pseudo-histories, there's all sorts of cool inter-mixings like stronger Sarmatian influences in Britian, Pelagianism vs. Nicenism vs. Celtic Paganism vs. Sarmatian Paganism, a lingering "We are Rome" sentiment, claims of the imperial purple, transitioning from Brito-Roman culture to a Romano-Chivalric culture, etc...

One of the things that's come from that (and extended my timeline to make Arthur age appropriate for it) is the idea of young Arthur being sent to the court of Constantinople during the reign of Justinian as the crown prince. It's something that I really want to play with, particularly because the idea of being Bash Bros with General Belisarius just tickles my fancy.
