Peasant logic: throw money at it for performance

I'm not asking them to make every setting available. I'm not asking them to make settings the way I like them. I'm asking them to give even some basic choice.

your choice is not to have a choice. that's what you have. that's what i have and the specific reason i choose to play on a console.

The guy who pays money for his entertainment has no choice? It's not plausible for everyone to pay for their own exclusive game, but it is plausible for devs to make settings so everyone get's to make the finishing touches themselves.

i pay a DEVELOPER OF A GAME to put the finishing touches on a fucking game. that's the point. i don't want to tweak anything. i am paying them to maximize the visual/performance output.

In vast majority of cases the answer is "Fuck the artist's vision". The artist in most cases has his own vision which is butchered in the names of profit already. Do you think 30 fps is every devs' grand vision when they start making their games? Giving graphics settings is the least amount of butchering that happens.

strawman non point.

So if the industry standard was 720/60 you would support the option to have 1080/30? Or are you speaking for others here? Is your opinion heavier than others'?

the modern standard is 1080p.

I didn't say so. I said they should give an option to disable it. Why not make everyone happy? The majority who likes motion blur plays the game like it was intended and the small portion plays the game with motion blur disabled.

yes and i said, devs should not care what you think about motion blur.

And that is the reason for not giving the choice of graphics settings for anyone? Who is the amazingly self centered guy here?

no you stupid fuck. i said the experience is shared and its easy, consistent, and it's great. you twisted it into some idiotic paranoid point about gaining an advantage.

You said it earlier. There's no point in having option for best visual and 1 fps or awful visuals at 300 fps. It seems that the industry standard is 1080/30, the ideal compromise so we have to start with that. 720/60 is also another industry standard. 720p has half the pixels 1080p has and 60 fps has twice the frames 30 fps has. Very simple conversion. ... I was trying to be reasonable. For devs to allow 720/60 on 1080/30 games, they need to do very little unless their game engine is bound to 30 fps like some games are.

blah blah we covered this i told you i'd be 1080/30 100% of the time. it would be irrelevant to me if a dev wasted their development time on this feature. that's the point at hand.

Where is the fucking slippery slope for PCs?

PCs only have graphics options because of the wide hardware variety. otherwise it would be exactly like it is on a console. you don't understand that?

You can't turn off animations in PC games.

i used to be able to do all kinds of shit blocking sprite animations and smoke textures inside the hl and quake engines to crank out a few more fps.

Give as many options as they feel like is not too much effort to implement.

there's no outcry for anything you're suggesting which is the point. i DONT want graphics options when i play a game.

False. It depends on how much configurability the devs allow. The slippery slope, eh? GTAV for example has pretty shitty FoV settings. No matter how much you mod Dark Souls 1, you can't get mouse acceleration working. Not even close to total configurability.

what horrible counterpoint when there's a post with a guy with gtav on a 3 monitor setup, as well as there are tons of hardware options and drivers for mouse settings, and if dark souls 1 sucks my cock that's a limitation of the game engine and not "the pc."

You can't please everyone, but trying to please a larger demography might be worth the effort. Giving some basic options might increase the sales of the game or even increase the sales of the console. If the cost to make the options is less than what it will bring in as new sales, it obviously is worth it.

NOBODY is fucking buying a game on the console BECAUSE it has video options. this is the point.

What about the guys whining they want more options? Ignore them like they ignore everyone who wants any options at all right now.

CORRECT. ignore all of them. make the product and deliver the experience that YOU THE DEVELOPER want to make.

More people would buy their games? Isn't that obvious? You keep talking like there's this single guy making a game that will be exactly as he visioned it will be.

talk to notch about it.
