My father in law died in a car accident recently. Me and him were quite close and have been for a very long time. He was like a father to me, a real father, and a great friend. My wife and I are high school sweethearts, got married in our early twenties and are both 30 now so I’ve known her father for half my life. Right after the accident and for a couple weeks following I tried to be strong for my wife. I would grieve (ball my eyes out) when I was alone and try to be stoic and just there to hold her when we were together. It’s been difficult, mostly for my wife who was an only child, but also for me. Watching my wife in tremendous pain and grieving myself at the same time isn’t easy.
