Practice what you preach

I've actually been chosen over other candidates by regularly following up.

The day after, send them a text or email about the interview, and how you're looking to move forward.

A day or two after that, give them a call, give them your availability (which should always - in my experience - be ANY TIME, but have some specifics because it looks good in addition to "any time you want",) and ask for an update.

Repeat at intervals that feel appropriate to you, depending on your relationship with the interviewer/point of contact.

At the very least, they're much more willing to call you back, because you've gotten your foot in the door (psychologically/mentally speaking,) and they'll think of you when they think of the position.
