In what universe was this guy living in? I assure you all three have long had their Pinochets. There was a US backed right wing military dictatorship in Guatemala for almost half a century, it really puts Pinochet to shame honestly. They perpetuated multiple genocides against the indigenous Maya so that they could steal their land and give it to united fruit, killing hundreds of thousands of people. The current regime is military backed and basically a miniature version of that, Guatemala is only a hybrid regime honestly. They slipped for four years and barely let a center left president through in the mid 2000s, but like so many regimes in Latin America they've since "corrected" course. I'm sure it's totally organic though ofc.

I've been reading about Guatemalan history and the Civil War today, I am mad as hell honestly. We owe these people a lot not than just a few visas. We trap them in a hell of our creation and then the Trump supporters response when the place becomes so unlivable they start fleeing is to build a wall around it. Then we blame them and pretend like it's their own fault. Central America is about to become a large US prison camp.
