Preowned prices for new Xbox One controllers - GameStop in-store

I didn't mention the wired functionality, because I thought it was obvious. What's not obvious is that the 360's wireless version ONLY works wireless as the detachable cable sends power only, never data. But that changed for the XBO controller, as it now functions as the DS3 and DS4, but with a removable battery.

" Also if you're grabbing it for PC use it doesn't matter what the new models are going to be or whatever, because the base one still has the same functionality as all the rivaling controllers (except maybe the steam controller) and I only really expect XBO exclusive games to make use of the Elite controller"

Numerous issues with that. First off, with the newer controller as well as the elite version, along with the new wireless adapter and the promised new drivers, that could potentially include audio output via that 3.5mm hack on the new controllers. The older one requires a proprietary adapter to convert to 3.5mm (aka standard headphone jack), and who knows, it may not even support it then. That feature would be an advantage for the XBO controller as while the DS4 has the same thing, we've yet to actually make it work, and with the lowest model controller, you might not have access to it or would have to buy the adapter to utilize it. We don't know how the elite controller operates. It could be within the controller itself where the paddles are mapped within the hardware, or it could be purely interpreted as unique inputs and translated via the console and the new PC drivers. If the latter is the case, does that new driver also add remapping of the whole controller? Does it allow you to map the paddles to things that aren't xinput (enter, escape, arrow keys, media/volume controls, launch programs, etc)? Could those only be done with the paddles or all buttons, and what about the lesser controller models? Tons of variables that could DRASTICALLY change what the controller can do, that we can't know until they tell us and/or it's in the hands of competent consumers.

On that final note, the DS4 can already do that stuff with DS4 windows. The Xbox One controllers as they are with the current drivers, are NOWHERE NEAR as powerful and configurable as the DS4 is. That gap could potentially lessen if Microsoft's "new" drivers are incredible, but I somehow doubt they will be. The level of functionality with the DS4 is absurd compared to the literally featureless 360/XBO controller drivers, on top of the hardware features like the touchpad, sixaxis motion, and the lightbar, all of which can be customized and used in dozens of ways. THIS post lists most of the advantages and options that the DS4 has over every other controller option.
