Look mate, your rona problem isn’t going anywhere any time soon. You’re probably going to lose half the US population by the time a vaccine comes along in a year or so (and even then, a good portion of the US population is so fucking idiotic they won’t get the vaccine anyway).
NZ has 90 cases. We have delayed the election one month (at the suggestion of the opposition party) so that we can identify any further cases and prevent a major flare up after voting day.
The US has a couple MILLION active cases (US record keeping is so fucking bad we don’t have an exact number) and almost 200,000 dead. One month after US scheduled elections, the US will still have a couple million fucking cases. Plus, the opposition party is NOT in favour of moving an election, and neither are the citizens.
The US is also doing almost nothing about the virus. “bUt wE hAvE aWesuM tEsTinG” okay cool but testing doesn’t stop it spreading. Delaying your election for safety reasons whilst simultaneously doing absolutely nothing about the virus spread will mean that a delayed election would be WORSE, as more people will have it. The difference is NZ is delaying the election, putting in restrictions to limit the spread and modelling and science (foreign concept to you Americans I know) indicates that this is the safest option.
Whereas the US... ahhh sorry mate I think you’ve missed the window to delay the election because it’ll be safer a month down the track. You missed that window by a fair few fucking million people. The US is burning to the ground mate a month later isn’t going to make it any safer. US government should be looking into alternative ways to vote or extending voting periods. Moving the election is not going to solve your issue.
You have people walking around with guns, police violence, a virus that’s killed six figures, looting, protests... buddy, there is NO such thing as public safety in the US so I don’t know why the fuck you’d use public safety as an excuse to move an election.
