Probability of enlisting

Take a deep breath, because it might not be as challenging as you think.

I'm 34, turning 35 in October. I'm currently finalizing my decision between the Army and Navy. The Army age cutoff is 35, and the Navy and Air Force's age cutoff is 39. Age shouldn't be a factor for you, since your goal is enlisting in the Air Force.

You didn't mention gender, but I'm assuming you're male. I'm 6'1, 250lbs. I meet the BMI requirements for the Army and the Navy. Of course I have body fat I'm trying to lose, but I have a decent amount of muscle mass. The only problem for me is the Air Force recruiter informed me abide strictly by the height/weight chart, so my weight would have to be around 195 before he'd even consider me. I was subsequently led to the Navy office down the hall.

Consult the height/weight chart. If you feel like it's a weight you can hit safely and still be healthy, consult an Air Force recruiter. I would also do some more research into the jobs you want, and which branch offers the jobs you're interested in. It's an important decision you have to make, so shop around.

I cannot offer advise pertaining to your medical questions. Personally, I would merely suggest my scars were the product of a crazy cat, or what not. I wouldn't even bring up the misdiagnosis unless it was on record. But that's me, and I hope you can find someone who can answer those questions more thoroughly.

Best of luck!
