The prof is being unreasonable

My Econ summer class was like this where we had 20 MC questions for a midterm and 1 hour (so 3 min per question) and could not go back to previous questions. Obviously people were upset and complained to the prof but you can’t really argue against “preventing cheating” (if the questions are in random order) and the prof also said “it’s open book and you’ll have access to resources which is a bigger advantage“.

Personally I agreed with the prof, and after writing both the midterm and final in that format, 3 min per question was more than ample time to finish (keep in mind some questions will be really quick to answer). The average was also very high (85%), so it showed it didn’t have a negative effect. It doesn’t hurt to try and get it changed; you could argue things like “it goes against how we have always been taught to approach tests” and if it’s not randomly ordered then you can also say “it doesn’t prevent cheating”. If your prof gives you less than 2.5min per question I would try to argue for more time (especially the written ones).

My advice is to pace yourself and don’t rush - you have more time than you think. Good luck :)
