Umm, Yang Jisheng says 40 million failed to be born, but he also says quite specifically that 36 million also starved to death. Yang Jisheng was also quite a loyal communist up until Tiananmen - I'd hardly say that he's fudging the numbers for the fun of it. Bearing in mind that lots of much more dubious people have given numbers significantly higher (Dikotter says 60 million based on exceptionally loose evidence), I don't have much reason to think Yang Jisheng is making shit up for the hell of it - the 40 million he cites are not part of the death toll from the starvation that occurred. Most historiography seems to back up that around 30 million people died. Hell, even the Party's own conservative estimates suggests 20 million people died.

More people died in capitalist India, why can't we focus on that instead of denying the sheer millions that actually were destroyed by a state like the PRC? Can I not condemn capitalism for being worst without also defending the fucking CCP?
