Returning Player seeking some DM advice/input [5e]

Hi folks, I hope it's ok to post a player question in this sub - I kind of thought I'd go straight to the ones who likely know best. A few friends have decided to dive back into D&D (most of us haven't played in 10-15 years!)

My question is a lore/geography backstory one. I've got several characters (level 1 noobs) I'm going to show up with and see which one sticks. One of my ideas is that of a Dwarven "King". He's the King of the smallest mountain in Faerun. Literally a hill. Sitting on top of a lowly tin deposit. Basically he, and the tiny clan he represents, is delusional in his sense of importance. I figure his hook is that he is starting to come around to realizing how small he is and how desperate their future really is - so he's decided to head out and make his fortune in the manner of that amazing Bruenor Battlehammer he's read so much about.

He's basically royal in title only, he doesn't have any special or op wealth to speak of which might imbalance him at level 1, and I'm going to try and leave his story as open ended as possible for the DM to do whatever he sees fit.

What I'd like to know is WHERE do you folks think a good and appropriate location might be for an obscure Dwarven clan to reside, geographically? I'm just looking to stick a pin in the map and go from there basically. Keep in mind his home is the most ridiculous "mountain" you've never heard of. I am fairly certain we're going to get our campaign going by using adventurers league material, etc, and just generally work in and around the sword coast if that helps. All of us grew up on FR books but it's been so damn long that I'm pretty lost to be honest.

Thanks for your help!
