I don't think anyone has quite internalized what the impact of solar power is going to be.

The German Fraunhofer Institute did a systematic study in 2015, and concluded that all the prior estimates were woefully over-cautious. They estimated that by 2050 the price of solar power will be about 3 cents per kWh delivered to the customer, and as many as 280 petawatt-hours of solar energy generated globally -- twice as much as all energy currently used in the world. Those were conservative estimates.
