Reddit at what moment in your life did you stop, chuckle, and think to yourself ‘I’m in danger’?

I was about 8 and my dad took my older sister and I fishing in his boat in West Bay near Galveston. It was summer and something we'd do often, but this day a storm rolled in quickly off the Gulf, also not abnormal as small afternoon showers are common there. However this storm was no joke and even though we had called it a day and were on our way back, the bay became too choppy to keep motoring in so we beached it on a tiny sandbar islet that was just some saltgrass and sand (we stayed in the boat).

So we're in this boat, surrounded by angry waves, exposed to the wind and rain, and lightning was striking. But that isn't what terrified me - water spouts and funnel clouds started forming from the swirling mass above & around us. One spout was only 100 yards or so away and I could see the whirl of spray at the base. At one point there were 5 or 6 spouts & funnels going on simultaneously. I was convinced we were going to die. In reality and hindsight, even a direct hit probably wouldn't have killed us - they were all likely F0 and didn't have any debris other than water. They all skirted us and eventually dissipated. After 45 minutes or so we were able to make it back to the boat ramp, no damage save to our psyche.

TL;DR - Got stranded on a desolate island during a bad sea storm.
