Reddit, what was your worst "group project" experience?

My final course in college for my major, I was the 'group leader' for a terrible bunch of people. The first few meetings we scheduled, every member called with an excuse: broken car, parents in town, maintenance guy is coming, I'm sick, etc. So I let them schedule the next meeting, they all agreed, and nobody showed up.

Fine maybe they aren't meeting people, we distributed the work load and agreed we'd all get a first draft together by email next week. Nobody emailed anything, 'it's not finished' they said, 'okay just email us what you have now.' I said. They had nothing!

I went to my professor and explained everything, showed him all the texts, the emails, my phone calls that went unanswered and unreturned. He told me to just mark all the work each person contributed and he'd grade my group as individuals instead of a group.

After that I still made an effort to schedule our group, but when nobody showed up I just didn't mention it again. I just wanted it on record for my professor that I was initiating contact and trying to schedule deadlines.

This project was almost the semester long and the last two weeks they were all panicking to get stuff together. I showed up and helped if they asked, but mostly just watched and listened. They added some stuff and made some edits, so I credited them for that work of course.

I submitted our final project as well as the project before my members started panicking near the deadline. I got a 106%, everyone else got c's and 1 b. It was a huge boost to my grade because it was such a large project.

Tldr: if you're having trouble with a group, and you're really making an effort, go talk to your professor and explain the situation.
