Redditor tries to help a devoutly religious Jehovah's Witness father understand why his son has been questioning the religion the dad raised him in

"Believer" here, this is not convincing. We know there are counter arguments to our faith, everyone has them. What makes them so effective is that people like this sound logical, but he's not really saying anything.

Other religions have the same issues? Good for them, it's irrelevant to me. We aren't told not to seek counter arguments (at least I never have been), I've been told to look for the truth and learn about Jehovah on my own, using their materials as a sort of study guide. The analogy with the car dealership is just plain wrong. You're going to fault someone and cite confirmation bias just because we don't want to hear people rip on us all day long and don't actively go looking for it? We get enough of that in our ministries, trust me: we know very well what everyone thinks of us and what everyone says about us behind our backs, including friends and family.

We don't need to look for counter arguments, we see them every day and we still keep our faith. We are challenged daily by the world to give up and that we don't "make sense" or "fit in". Do you know how tempting it is to just give up and have everyone praise you for it? It's not a perfect religion, there is no such thing, and we don't have all of the answers but we are doing the best we can to affect positive change in our lives and the world at large.

Jehovah's Witness is probably incorrect about a great many things, but we are trying, and unlike a great many religions I could point to, we do more than pay lip service to our beliefs. Jesus said spread his word door to door, we do this. The bible says not to eat blood. (How are you fed when you can't eat? With an IV - that's "eating" blood.) So we refuse blood transfusions on pain of death. We don't smoke, drink or commit crimes and those who do are no longer our brothers. How many "Christians" do you see going to jail? If we come to your door and you tell us not to come back, we won't. It's not hurting you to just freaking talk to someone for a minute. It's not like we are taking a dump on your porch. We are trying, we understand you don't like us. Can't we just let it be at that?
